O knihe
Fraternities have been a part of university life in the United States since the late eighteenth century. While they offer their members a feeling of camaraderie and enhance the student experience, fraternities have also gained a rather unflattering reputation over the years, for example because of the gender expectations they place on their members. Masculine attributes connected to fraternity members are Heterosexual Promiscuity, Toughness and Assertiveness, an Imposing Physical Type, Relational Independence and Professional Orientation. Starting in the 1920s, fraternities and their traditions have frequently been depicted in movies. In order to find out whether the gender roles expected from fraternity members are also represented in the media, this dissertation analyses the movies Animal House, Revenge of the Nerds, Going Greek and Bad Neighbors regarding their conformity with the above-mentioned masculinity attributes.
