O knihe

Engineering work on dams does not stop after the construction stage, but goes ahead until the end of its activity. Monitoring, making surveys, analysis and studies are important to define their safety, good behaviour and operation. This work is completed by studying strength characteristics, settlements, seepage and other structural and geotechnical features, available from instrumentation on dams. The Pournari I dam (Greece) is one of the biggest embankment dams in Europe (127m height and 580m long), and contains a large instrumentation since the end of its construction, currently for 33 years. Few studies have been done, but mainly focus on geodetic data and settlements. The aim of this study is to provide a complementary analysis of the behaviour of the dam by studying geotechnical instrumentations, particularly pneumatic piezometers, during its first 7 years of operation.
