The areas in which most of the learners struggle were identified as follows: language, Limited English Proficiency, reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, mathematics and lifeskills. In addition, behavioural and emotional problems were also tackled. The gifted learner is in most cases forgotten when people talk about a learner with barriers because it is assumed that such a learner can cope unassisted.
