O knihe

Strategy instruction has still remained a controversial issue in the research area of language teaching. While several researchers oppose the teaching of communication strategies, many others support it, indicating the benefits learners get from that mode of instruction. However, this issue has not been widely investigated in Vietnam. This book provides ground-breaking knowledge of communication strategy instruction in a Vietnamese context. It presents the implementation of communication strategy instruction in a Vietnamese EFL classroom and how well the students respond to strategy teaching in three settings: a strategy class, a regular speaking class, and a tour guide session. It also examines the perceptions of the students and the teacher about the strategy class. Results suggest that fostering communication strategies in language learners is likely to enhance their fluency in language use. The findings have significant implications for the field of foreign language teaching, and should be useful to language teachers, researchers and administrators who work in the areas of syllabus design, curriculum development, and teaching methodology.
