O knihe

Love and Deceit in the Fight against the Traffic of Drugs. . . At the age of four, Fernanda Garza is illegally brought into the United States from Mexico accompanied by her mother who becomes the maid to Kate and Tom Deering in Riverside, Connecticut. In time they will adopt her. As a student at Yale University, she meets Jaime Núñez, a MBA student from Guadalajara, Mexico. This story follows the lives of Fernanda and Jaime, she as a DEA agent and he as a Mexican federal law enforcement sub-comandante in their fight against the traffic of drugs, which in his case includes going undercover in the Tijuana Cartel under the control of the Mijares brothers. From either side of the border, each will become hardened, bitter and disillusioned faced with the dehumanizing effects of the war on drugs. Assassinations, torture and the killing of women and children in the highlands of the Sierra Madre Occidental stretching down the western spine of Mexico are all part of this fast-paced narrative. Over the years both will become romantically involved despite the obstacles facing a tenuous relationship at best.
