In it Crockett explores the concepts and practical consequences of each, weaving them into a story of adventure romance set in a period familiar to readers of Austen and Bronte, (and encompassing parts of the best of both). The heroine Patsy has to find a hero worthy of her love from the many varieties of man on offer. The contrast between London and Galloway lifestyles are highlighted with an ironic humour and it is no surprise that Patsy learns more on Isle Rathan than she ever does in London.
