DeLaine finds herself at home after the Christmas break with a whole new outlook. It's the first time she can remember coming home without everything seeming so bleak. Her stepbrother Geoffrey and stepmother Clarice are nice to her, which is a surprise, but DeLaine doesn't trust them.
