O knihe

Major Canadian writers discuss as well as interpret transatlantic ties as dominant feature in their respective oeuvres. The foreign policy of Canada has been of a triangular dimension closely followed by literature in its wake. Transatlantic ties started, developed and deepened in mutual respect and interdependence and got transformed between the European mother countries - Great Britain and France - and the United States and Canada in the New World. From the early travellers' diaries to 20th century multiculturalism through immigrants' transformation into ardent Canadians over the past centuries all aspects of life have been captured in fiction. Copying French feudal institutions to be established in New France from the 16th century onwards later loyalism to British ideals and institutions gave way to economic and cultural contacts as well as social communication with the the United States in the 20th century.
