J Whether the di¿iculty be indissolubly connected with the ia tricacy that has just been mentioned, or arises only from the man ner in which the subject has been treated, may be matter of doubt but it is not easy to express one's opinions on fever, in a way which shall obviate all ambiguity. Wish my observa. Tions to be applied to the epidemic, or (as some term it, and I believe correctly) the infectious fever of this country; and to fever generally, only a: far as the general subject is unavoidably discussed, whilst so important a branch is under consideration. I am compelled to avord the word typhus, fmm finding that very di¿'erent ideas are associated with ll. Whilst some practi tioners employ it to designate the genus of the fever in question, without any reference tn the intensity of the symptoms; from others we hear such language as the following He has a great deal of fever, and may soon fall into a typhoid state as If the term did not comprise the whole series of the phenomena of a disease, but only some portion of that series. It. Is to be regretted that we have no word in general use, except that of common continued fever, which should express the former of these acceptations of typhus, and at the same time be less appal ling to the public than that term notoriously is.
