O knihe

Decision-making as a Convenient Fiction has been inspired by an excessive preoccupation by organisation and management studies with the concepts of decision-making and rational choice which has created an image of 'organisational man', dealing with the world by means of representations and intentions. Simultaneously, the way of portraying organisations developed on the basis of analogical mechanisms privileging rationalistic, linear processes. The present publication challenges the universality of the above intellectual priorities by placing them against the socioeconomic contexts in which they originated. It brings to the foreground alternative views on what constitutes human conduct, social order and knowledge. The rationalisations permeating accounts of social sciences are opposed with the notion of play as a clue to an ontological explanation. It is illustrated by the Afro-Brazilian practice of capoeira, which engenders a mode of existence based on non-intentional embodied engagement. This alternative way of dealing with the world by means of 'sentient continuity' reveals hidden dimension of any organisational contex.
