O knihe
Pakistan's estimated population in July 2009 is 180,800,000 and by 2010 the population is expected to reach 200,846,310. The population was 172,800,000 in July 2008. During 1950-2008, Pakistan's urban population expanded over sevenfold, while the total population increased by over fourfold. By the end of this decade the population is expected to be nearly 180 million. In the past, the country's population had a relatively high growth rate that has, however, been moderated by declining fertility and birth rates. Dramatic social changes have led to rapid urbanization and the emergence of megacities. During 1990-2003, Pakistan sustained its historical lead as the most urbanized nation in South Asia with city dwellers making up 34% of its population. Pakistan has a multicultural and multi-ethnic society and hosts one of the largest refugee populations in the world as well as a young population. Pakistan's national census was scheduled to take place in 2008 now it has been delayed to after Eid in 2009.
