For example small granuloma or an abscess may heal by nonsurgical treatment whereas a large cyst may require surgical intervention. The current treatment philosophy for periapical lesions lies in the favour of nonsurgical root canal treatment. If such treatment does not lead to resolution of periapical lesion, then additional treatment options should be considered.
