Occupied Spaces / Besetzte Räume steht für Bildpaare, die ich während meines
Aufenthalts in Kapstadt, Südafrika, zu verknüpfen begann. Auslöser war eine Aufnahme in der Nähe des Schwimmbads von Sea Point. Ich fotografierte Fußabdrücke als Ausdruck für das, was wir Menschen und die Natur an Raum einnehmen. Bald wurde mir klar, es geht mir nicht nur um den Raum, den wir einnehmen, den die Natur um uns herum einnimmt. Es geht mir auch um die Dimension dahinter, die Vielschichtigkeit, die Bewertungen, die wir Räumen, Menschen, Dingen, Strukturen beimessen.

The title Occupied Spaces stands for pairs of images that I started conjoining during
my stay in Cape Town in early 2024. The trigger of the series was a photo I took near the swimming pool in the Sea Point neighbourhood. I photographed footprints as an
expression of the space we humans occupy together with nature. I quickly realised that I was not only interested in the spaces that we inhabit and those that the natural phenomena surrounding us occupy, but also in the underlying dimensions, their complexity, and the attributions we attach to spaces, people, things and structures.
