The petit ouvrage was located between the gros ouvrages Bréhain and Rochonvillers, facing Luxembourg. Aumetz was initially planned as a gros ouvrage of six combat blocks, but only three infantry blocks were built. It was one of the few Maginot ouvrages that were able to sabotage their weapons before surrendering to the Wehrmacht in June 1940.
