The Esplanade building faced the harbour with its massive 'container terminal' reputed to be the largest in the Southern hemisphere, in its day. We witnessed the construction and further development of the vehicle terminal building and its resultant increase of vehicles being exported and imported - departing/arriving Durban by road and rail traffic.
We witnessed the transformation of the old the old railway 'Workshop' into a modern shopping center. The beach-front Marine Parade was also modernized during our stay in this Natal coastal resort city.
