REVIEW by JOHN BROWN, Travel Author (Return to Oz, plus others)

This is a book and an author with a message to impart. I found myself being carried along on a tide of revenge. There are several clear messages within this work - primarily that the world has turned against the innocent and the law abiding, while protecting those with something to hide. What counts is corporate greed and personal advancement at almost any cost. In his one-man quest, the main character, unlike most of us, sets out to right some terrible wrongs. With alarming savagery, and not a little cold bloodedness, he searches out his victims. No sector of society is immune to his pursuit of justice. So whether they be businessmen, politicians or simply wrong-uns, they do not escape his radar and deep conviction of Right & Wrong. Written by an author who obviously has a rare understanding of the human mind and its twisted workings, I found myself mentally joining his crusade, brutal as it sometimes was.

I particularly liked the line: 'You cannot rehabilitate a mosquito to stop it sucking blood - you either have to put them in a glass cage where they can be seen, or you squash them'. The oxygen of publicity being an effective glass container. John Smale has either, an exaggerated sense of justice, or is inspiring us to follow a kinder path - either way, there is a message within these pages - good will eventually overcome evil, and you reap what you sow ! As a point of interest, I read this out of sequence, I now intend to go back and read the first two books in this trilogy.
DESCRIPTION

Encompassing torture, murder, abuse, shamanic magic and revenge there are two outcomes in this telling of this story; depravity or humanity. The belief in the unknown is a forceful weapon when in the hands of the powerful. Religions, corporations, governments and the law use fear to control. Women are regarded as inferior with little regard for their true place in society. Dominance is held by the elite who live at the top of the pyramid that few people can climb. It is not a place that can be shared by too many but those who dominate those positions are well protected by their henchmen who survive by pushing aspirants back down to the bottom. The true path is hidden by control.
This book is an influential but alarming metaphor and a plea for change. It is told sometimes with horror and at others with supernatural and occult mystery. It describes the damage caused by the corruption of power by the church which hides abuse and turns the poor onto pavements to preserve their riches. Politicians who make promises they know they will break to gain positions of influence. Corporations which put shareholders before their customers and employees. The law that has become so complex that huge fees are paid to the holders of the keys to solve the riddles. Bodies of authority who have some dishonest individuals who sell camouflage for wrong-doers. And then there are organised crime bosses. But there are ways to convert those uncaring people into being humane.
The strength of a magician is trickery. When the illusion is created as a true ability to influence and change minds, then the power for change is created and used.
