O knihe

Personal data has gained significance in the past few decades and is being used in different ways, such as research. The recently gazetted Data Protection Act of Kenya lays out regulations for the processing of personal data.Although the Act creates restrictions for organizations that process personal data, there are exemptions provided for special cases such as research. The Act exempts research from the restrictions imposed on processing personal data to allow researchers to process personal data. The purpose of this book is to investigate the impact of data privacy and security laws on research practices in a selected Kenyan research institution. This was motivated by the need to ensure data confidentiality, as highlighted in the privacy laws. Specifically, the book aims to examine the challenges faced by research institutions while applying the data protection regulations in their research, explore what practices in data analytics can be used to mitigate these challenges, and propose a solution that utilizes data analytics to help research institutions adhere to Kenyäs Data Privacy and Protection Laws.
