The anticonvulsant action of adenosine and its analogs has been observed in several different studies. adenosine and its analogs protect against audiogenic, chemically-induced and kindled seizures. Theophylline-induced convulsions may be related to a cerebral vasoconstriction or to an antagonistic effect on the central adenosine receptors.
