The plant was traditionally used to treat stomach and kidney problems. The plant had shown significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activity which indicates its use in pharmaceutical industry for treating various ailments. The plant was found in 1990's in almost all the valley lakes but is now found in only Manasbal lake of Kashmir Himalaya.
