During this period of development, its concepts and treatment modalities have undergone tremendous changes. At first, only protocols involving two-stage surgery were recognized as providing reproducible and reliable results. However, the rediscovery of the immediate-loading protocols, which for decades had been considered untenable, must be viewed as a revolution.
