Due to the advancement of information and communication technologies specially Internet and WWW, our traditional publishing system has changed and new open access publishing system has emerged. Institutional digital repository has emerged as a new publishing platform to the academic community. The objective of this work is to discuss different open access publishing model along with different initiatives taken at national and international level for the development of IDR.
