Pediatric Neuropsychiatry

This book is a case-based introduction to pediatric neuropsychiatry that reflects real-world clinical care of children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric disorders. Adult neuropsychiatry is now a well-established field with numerous reputable references, but references in pediatric neuropsychiatry are rare. Children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric conditions are very common and they and their caregivers often struggle to find professionals well-educated in this field. This drastically expanded second edition includes more than ten new chapters, covering topics that were not included in the first edition, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome regression disorder, mitochondrial disorders, and pediatric neurodegenerative diseases. Several chapters focusing on the pediatric neuropsychiatric examination have also been added. While the basic neuropsychiatric examination chapter in the first edition was very popular, the field has advanced to the degree that an additional chapter on neurogenetic assessment and testing is a useful augmentation. An additional chapter on the neuropsychiatric review of systems also provides general clinicians and neuropsychiatry trainees with practical targeted questions regarding specific diseases that they may wish to consider when assessing their patients. Chapters from the previous edition have been updated with new literature and more recent data.
