He composed many hundreds of poems while he was incarcerated, most of them handwritten on yellow legal pad. After his release and his recovery from addiction he led a full and productive life, until he died in an automobile accident in 2004. His father Richard Hudgens has selected 57 eloquent examples of his work, transcribing them for publication.
