The objective of this book is to provide a brief, but thorough account of the basic principles of good pump design. The author begins with a review of basic hydraulic relations. This section also includes a chapter on analytical methods and computer aided design, which is becoming increasingly common. This is followed by a description of two simple pump designs, the centrifugal pump and the axial flow pump. Next, support devices, such as shafts, bearings, seals and drives are discussed.
