After an extremely disappointing 08-09 season, Sydney FC went straight into action, sacking coach John Kosmina, who was beginning to earn the contempt of many loyal Sydney FC supporters. A week later, Czech coach, Vítezslav Lavicka, was signed as Sydney's fifth manager in as many seasons. Although Sydney had a terrible season, this move was slightly controversial, as it was rumoured the Sydney FC board had been in talks with Lavicka around Christmas time of 2008. Some fans were not in favour of this move either, as five managers in as many seasons created an unstable team, and there were calls for the club to keep Kosmina, to provide that stability.
