Each contributor provides a brief summary of their background, education and relevant experience, and then describes a few memorable incidents from their career. For most of the tales in the volume, no knowledge of medicine is necessary. When technical terms are used (they can't be avoided in some cases), they're explained in footnotes at the end of the story. Overall, the book differs from other collections of medical anecdotes in its breadth of perspectives and in its championing of the National Health Service, which all the contributors learned to value both as practitioners and as patients.
