Reports have advanced that the suicide bomber targeted one of the headquarters of the pro-government popular fighters in the Lawder city. Furthermore, reporters have underlined that the attack bore the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the group's branch in Yemen, is considered the terror network's most dangerous, blamed for several unsuccessful attacks in the U.S. in recent years. The Al-Qaida militants use improvised explosive devices, roadside bombs and suicide attacks against the security forces, pro-government militiamen and intelligence officials in southern regions. Moreover, other reports have said that the Yemeni army launched a US-backed offensive and drove Al-Qaeda militants out of their strongholds in Abyan and Shabwa provinces in mid-2012.
