On a daily basis, pathologists are confronted with appendectomy specimens in which various lesions have developed. Preoperative detection of precancerous and tumoral lesions of the appendix remains exceptional, despite the contribution of medical imaging. Only anatomopathological examination provides diagnostic certainty. The aim of the present study was to determine the value of systematic anatomopathological examination of appendectomy specimens in patients undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis, and to describe the epidemiological and evolutionary particularities of incidentally discovered appendicular lesions.
