An understanding of the pathological process involved can assist in explaining the cause to anxious or concerned patients/ parents. The management may involve a simple prophylaxis for extrinsic staining, or a combination of bleaching and microabrasion techniques for various intrinsic stains or even more invasive veneers or crowns. Internalized stains may be managed by bleaching, but more usually require restorative procedures ranging from the placement of simple composites to veneers and crowns.
