The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces and is responsible for providing power projection from the sea using the mobility of the United States Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces rapidly. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States and was initially formed by Captain Samuel Nicholas on the 10th of November 1775 in Philadelphia as two battalions of Continental Marines which served as naval infantry.
