O knihe
West Africa has always had incidences of floods and drought. These extreme weather events have far-reaching consequences on the livelihood of the people. Famine and lack of pasture for livestock due to water deficit, among others are usually connected to drought occurrences. Floods are similarly associated with the destruction of infrastructure, displacement of people, and numerous losses of lives and properties. A better understanding of these extreme weather events and improved seasonal rainfall forecast can minimize these impacts. The rainfall intensity in West Africa has obvious inter-annual variability, calling for the need to understand more underlying the inter-annual variations of the monsoon seasonal rainfall ranging from the influence of the large-scale ocean and atmospheric variability. The present research mainly focused on the analysis of long historical records of precipitation, understanding the main characteristics and its mechanisms in West Africa.
