O knihe

Excerpt from Annual Report of the Cemetery Department

In December, 1902, the City Council made an appropria tion for the purchase of additional land for Mount Hope Cemetery; this enabled the Trustees in February, 1903, to purchase three lots of land on and near Canterbury street, and immediately adjoining Mount Hope. (see financial state ment.) As stated in previous reports, the development of this land will enable the department to meet the constant demand for moderate priced graves, and work to that end has progressed as far as the appropriation allowed. The nature of the ground purchased is such that it is necessary to prepare it in its entirety before graves can be sold or inter ments made therein, and such preparation means a large expenditure of time and labor before the land can be fitted for cemetery purposes. The complete development of this land is the most urgent proposition before the Trustees, and we Earnestly recommend that the City Council make Special appropriation to that end, in view of the fact that the depart ment cannot meet the expense of such work from the regular appropriation.
