This book is conducted to find out the role of the European Union as a main global governance actor in democracy promotion through the post-communist era in European countries. Since 2004, as a part of the project called 'Rejoining Europe' the CEE countries have joined the European Union and showed a considerable progress in first phase of transition period backed up with the reports of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and by the index measured by Freedom House. Despite the success made in the first phase of democratic consolidation, the next period of democratization process in the region has also had counterproductive results. In general, this book try to find out what is the key successes as well as core challenges faced on the way of EU's promotion of good governance. In general The work is distinctive as reveals the key successes and failures of the EU's consolidation of democracy in post-communist Europe as it answers the important questions; how the EU became the most successful promoter of democracy in the region and what the secrets of the EU's successful governance in the region are.
