Frank the Painter is about a man approaching middle age who has emotional problems and lusts after little people. He gets married to a woman who wins the lottery and she convinces him to love her, a normal sized human being. Frank meets some circus performers and they start a Chinese restaurant. The story unravels when Frank's crush re-enters the situation and kidnaps one of Frank's adopted children, who is a hermaphrodite. The plot then follows Frank as he has a nervous breakdown and comes out with a new outlook on life.
