O knihe

The book is an attempt to reveal how far Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) has come in the dispute resolution thrust of Nigeria. From lowly beginnings, ADR has now been incorporated into the dispute resolution drive of Nigeria. Given the numerous challenges associated with litigation, like incessant adjournments, cumbersome and rigid procedures, overcrowded dockets, few judges to attend to cases, obsolete infrastructure in the judiciary, expensiveness of the judicial process etc, ADR soon proved to be a worthy alternative or option in achieving the ends of justice. ADR is suitable for commercial, matrimonial and other civil suits where the relationships of the disputants are sought to be maintained or repaired. It is easier to engage, less expensive and gives room for participation of the disputants. Thus, the situation and application of ADR in the NationalIndustrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) and the Multi-Door Courthouses in Nigeria, is the mainstay of this work. Some mechanisms of ADR are examined and discussed while the advantages and disadvantages of ADR over litigation are also evaluated.
