O knihe

The subject of this book is the development of anefficient numerical method capable of predicting theflow behavior of two-phase immiscible fluids. In thequest of an accurate and robust numerical method forthe modeling of two-phase flows, one has to keep inmind the intrinsic properties and difficultiesassociated with the problem: (i) those flows aremostly three-dimensional, (ii) the interface mightencounter a lot of topology changes, (iii) largejumps of density and viscosity might exist across theinterface, (iv) surface tension forces may play avery important role in the interface dynamics. Hence, the influence of this force should be accuratelyevaluated and incorporated into the model, (v) massconservation is of primary importance. All these issues are addressed, and specialtechniques are proposed for their treatment. Thechosen method combines a pressure stabilized finiteelement method for the Navier Stokes equations with adiscontinuous Galerkin method for the level set equation.Such a combination of those numerical methods resultsin a simple and effective algorithm that allows tosimulate diverse flow regimes presenting largedensity and viscosity ratios.
