The results indicate that coals containing the higher percentages of fixed carbon give the least smoke and are the most economical.
While these tests were going on a general inquiry was being made into the question of central heating plants. The results obtained in this inquiry, when compared with the results of the tests on house heating boilers, Show that such plants are economical for the house holder and that they solve a part of the smoke problem in the cities. A brief summary of the results of this investigation is given on page 41.
