THE LAW OF THE JUNGLE is a lively commentary on life in the slums of
Kingston, which captures the odd mixture of humor and violence that was part of
everyday life. The drama unfolds as a conflict between two ghetto gangs during
the early nineteen seventies.
The peculiar imagery of the
Kingston slums is cast against a background of violence, religion and politics
as the gangs waged war in the city. The violence spun out of control when some
politicians exploited it for personal benefit. Counter measures by the
authorities proved ineffective in stopping the spread of disorder. The effort
of the town's revivalist preacher to shield some of the neighborhood's youth
from the carnage that engulfed the city proved mildly successful.
