Article 27, a convenience to both Church and State in order to quell dissention, states that any person convicted of serious crime, suffering from a terminal illness, or unable to support themselves financially, must be banished to the Rift. No one ever returns, their outcome unknown.
Public outrage grows when two innocent children, victims of a murderous conspiracy, are sent to their doom. Under pressure the world government approves a rescue attempt, and the terrible secret uncovered by the scientific expedition starts a chain reaction which threatens the existence of humanity.
For fifteen-year-old Mara and her younger brother Job, the nightmare grows as the terrible atrocities of the Rift are revealed. Their survival at stake, they fight to survive a threat that could unravel their sanity.
