Arthur Harris, a hayseed from Montgomery County, Arkansas, is called up for the Great War. Through the travel and horrors of war and injuries, he is transferred to a veterinary hospital and is able to form an attachment with a Hello Girl in France to work as a switchboard soldier. He returned to Arkansas with an opportunity to be something other than a farmer.
