Hereafter cheap sneers at Chicago will be at a discount among those who know. I prophesy here, incidentally, that it will not be many years before Chicago will be the largest city in America. It will not be a great many years before it will be the largest city in the world. Chicago won its dis tinction by right.

I wish to pay one more passing tribute to that city. For grand, magnificent, public spirit there is no city in this coun try that can surpass it, if there is even one that can claim to stand by its side.

But I am not here to glorify the World's Exposition, as though I were a paid agent to set forth its distinguishing characteristics and its glory. Let me pass to that which seems to me worthy of such high significance as to make it a fit subject for a Sunday sermon, even on the Opening Sun day of our year.
