Though local adjustment, viewed fr om the biological standpoint, is a much less striking phenomenon than acclimatization, it has a much greater and more general agricultural importance. The difficulties which have to be surmounted by acclimatization are met only in the introduction of new varieties from remote regions. It is only when we consider the advantage that might come from the successful intro 'duction of better types of plants or of plants better adapted to special conditions or uses that acclimatization becomes a subject of general interest.
