Auszug: Fredericksburg ist eine unabhängige Stadt im Norden des US-Bundesstaates Virginia am Rappahannock River, auf mittlerer Strecke zwischen Washington, D.C. und Richmond gelegen. Laut offizieller Schätzung aus dem Jahr 2006 hatte die Stadt eine Einwohnerzahl von 22.410 mit einer Bevölkerungsdichte von 824 Einwohner je km². Die Stadt ist reich an historischen Schauplätzen und zieht daher einige Touristen an. Außerdem gilt sie als Zentrum der hiesigen Agrarindustrie, beherbergt jedoch auch einige Standplätze der Leichtindustrie. 1671 gegründet als ein Fort zur Erschließung des restlichen Virginias, unterstützte der Gouverneur Alexander Spotswood 1714 die Ansiedlung einiger deutscher Familien aus dem Siegerland an einem Ort namens Germanna am Rapidan River und leitete eine Expedition zu den Blue Ridge Mountains zwei Jahre später.
