A graph is a mathematical model which is applicable to any system involving binary relation. There have been attempts to generalize this ¿graph model¿ so that it is applicable to systems involving relations not necessarily binary. Hypergraph is one such generalization in which an edge may contain more than two vertices. The problem of characterizing the degree sequence of a simple hypergraph is a long standing open problem.
