Der Abwärtswandler (auch Tiefsetzsteller, Step-Down-Converter, Buck-Converter oder Abwärtsregler) ist eine elektronische Schaltung zur Gleichspannungswandlung. Einsatzgebiete sind beispielsweise Gleichstromsteller. Der Betrag der Ausgangsspannung Uo ist stets kleiner als der Betrag der Eingangsspannung Ui.Die Höhe der Ausgangsspannung kann durch geregeltes Ein- und Ausschalten des Schalters S (meist ein Transistor) eingestellt werden. Der Schalter S schaltet während der gesamten Periode T nur für die Zeit Te durch.
