Betroffene Tiere nennt man Albinos, betroffene Menschen ziehen meist die neutralere Form "Menschen mit Albinismus" vor. Menschen mit Albinismus bekommen leichter Sonnenbrand und deshalb auch leichter Hautkrebs. Außerdem sind bei vollständigem Albinismus Sehschärfe und ihr räumliches Sehen eingeschränkt.
