Combination (consist of drugs, two or more, combined in a unique formulation) antihypertensives include combined agents from the different pharmacologic classes. More recently, a very new combination dosage form of candesartan cilexetil and hydrochlorothiazide (from the class of angiotensin-II antagonists and diuretics) is indicated in the treatment and management hypertension. Simultaneous determination of candesartan cilexetil and hydrochlorothiazide mixtures by using spectrophotometric method is a difficult problem in analytical chemistry, due to spectral interferences. UV-spectra of studied drugs were collected from 200nm to 350nm in ethanolic solutions. In this range the studied drugs showed a considerable degree of spectral overlapping (91.82%). Initial studies of the UV-spectra of the individual compounds showed that satisfactory linear regression calibration models could be constructed in the concentration range of 5-50µg/ml and 2-20µg/ml for candesartan and hydrochlorothiazide respectively.
