For centuries gold is considered as an important asset possessed by an individual or by a Government as a possession in its treasury. Financial wealth of an individual can be assessed by measuring the quantity and the value of gold owned by them. In India gold is always related with the prosperity and growth. Indian families show more interest in buying gold during various occasions and Indian parents give from minimal to huge amount of gold to their daughters during their marriages. Due to heavy consumption of gold by Indian families, Indian Government imports 900 tonnes of gold and so far Indian families privately stocks 22000 tonnes of gold as reserves. The gold loans in India has been in existence since centuries, earlier it was controlled purely by money lenders and pawn shops (jewel loan shops), who deliver immediate cash to the borrowers against pledging of gold jewellery, gold coins or gold bars as security. The gold loan market has experienced a transformation after the active entry of Banks and NBFCs in this segment of retail loan lending.
