Meanwhile, retired criminalist Mark Thoreau is nursing a broken heart and a bottle of bourbon, and local reporter Tohru Iwasaki is serving as the inspiration for a mystery novel. When a child is abducted from the school that Mark's daughter attends, they all come together to investigate the case, but Mark can't take his mind off of Mercy, and Tohru might have bitten off a little more than he can chew when it comes to playing the hero detective.
