Her best friend Toby Harper was an American Indian boy that lived in Rangeville all his life.
The summer of 1955, Toby and Amanda realized their feelings for each other were becoming more than just friendship. However, Amanda didn't know it would be her last summer there, and a murder would directly affect her entire family.
She returned to Maine after more than fifteen years away. She wanted to reconnect not only with her family and the town but especially with Toby.
